Day Case Surgical Unit
Day Case Surgical Unit
Hereford County Hospital - Hereford, UK
Über das Projekt
Hereford County Hospital, operated by Wye Valley NHS Trust, expanded its services with the opening of a new Day Case Surgical Unit in July 2024. This modern facility was the first to be delivered under the NHS ProCure23 framework and achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating. Designed to streamline patient flow and improve operational efficiency, the unit enables patients to be assessed, treated, and discharged on the same day.
Designziele
To meet the demanding requirements of a high-traffic clinical environment and support infection control protocols, the project team specified a range of robust Acrovyn wall protection solutions by CS. These were chosen to prevent surface damage, withstand frequent cleaning, support accessibility, and complement the hospital’s overall design aesthetic.

Lösung
CS delivered a comprehensive interior wall protection package that enhanced both the hygiene and visual consistency throughout the new unit. More than 375 Acrovyn Sheets were installed, with finishes tailored to the specific needs of each area.
In clinical zones, full-height Acrovyn Bactericide Sheets in Pure White were used to support infection control. Corridors and other high-traffic areas featured half-height Acrovyn textured and smooth sheets in Snow White. In addition, smooth sheet splashbacks were installed in utility rooms to provide a resilient, wipe-clean surface.
To further protect corridor walls from impact damage and support patient safety, HRB-20 combination hand/crash rails were installed above the half-height sheets. These rails were colour-coordinated to aid accessibility: the white crash rail cover matched the sheet below, while dark grey handrail provided visual contrast against the wall, helping patients navigate the space more easily. In waiting areas, TP-300 rub rails in dark grey were fitted behind chairs to prevent scuffing and minimise the need for repainting.
Corner protection was also a key consideration. Depending on the level of protection required, a mix of heavy-duty models with continuous aluminium retainers (SM-20 and SSM-20) and simple stick-on solutions (SO-50V) were used.
In recovery bays and treatment rooms, vertical pairs of BL-10V bed head protectors were installed. These were mounted on spacers or extended brackets, tailored to the configuration of each bed and its associated equipment.
All products were fitted by Goss Environmental Coatings Ltd, whose experienced teams worked closely with CS and the client to ensure timely delivery and installation in line with the unit’s tight construction schedule.
